How do I convert a PDF or screenshot to Markdown?
Upload a document or an image and get clean Markdown you can copy or download as a .md file, ready for GitHub, Notion or your notes app.
Documents are converted directly on the server, without AI. Supported types are PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, .xls), CSV, JSON, TXT and Markdown. Excel and CSV files become proper Markdown tables, and workbooks with several sheets get a heading per sheet. PDF and Word files are extracted as plain text, which is ideal when you need the content rather than the original layout.
For image to Markdown, upload a PNG, JPG or WEBP: a screenshot, a photo of a document or a slide. An AI vision model transcribes all the text and rebuilds headings, lists and tables as Markdown, and adds a short description for any chart or diagram. It's a fast way to turn a screenshot into Markdown without retyping it.
A scanned PDF has no text layer to extract, so it may come back empty. In that case, save the page as an image and use the image mode instead.
Document conversion is free with no account required (signed-in users get 20 free documents per day). Reading images with AI requires an account and costs 20 coins per file, refunded if the conversion fails. Files are converted one at a time, up to 15 MB each.
How to use
- Click or drop a document or image file
- Click convert to Markdown (images ask you to confirm the 20-coin charge first)
- Check the result in the Markdown panel
- Copy it or download it as a .md file
Frequently asked questions
Is converting PDF to Markdown free?+
Yes. Documents (PDF, Word, Excel, CSV) convert free without an account; signed-in users have a quota of 20 free documents per day. Reading images with AI costs 20 coins per file.
Which file types are supported?+
PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, .xls), CSV, JSON, TXT, Markdown, and PNG, JPG or WEBP images, up to 15 MB per file.
Can I convert an image or screenshot to Markdown?+
Yes. The AI reads all the text in the image and rebuilds headings, lists and tables as Markdown. Image conversion requires an account and costs 20 coins per image.
Does Excel or CSV keep its table formatting?+
Yes. Rows and columns become a Markdown table with correct pipe separators, and multi-sheet workbooks get a heading per sheet, ready to paste into GitHub or Notion.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to text?+
PDFs are converted by extracting their text layer, so an image-only scan won't produce text. Save the page as a PNG or JPG and upload it in image mode instead.
Does the PDF keep its headings and tables?+
PDF and Word files are extracted as plain text: the content comes through, but the original headings and table layout may not. If structure matters, try a screenshot of the page through image mode.
Is my data safe?+
Files are used only for the conversion and are never published. Documents are converted on the server without AI; images are sent to an AI model to read the text. You copy or download the result yourself.
Can I convert multiple files at once?+
Not yet. Convert one file per run; for several files, run them one after another. Each run counts toward your daily free quota.
